WIP Ruleset (Updated: 2025/10/29):
Terminology
- Battle Tops (Name WIP) will be abbreviated to BT (Pronounced Bee-Tee)
- The Main Battle Tops can be a subset of the BT; that will be abbreviated to MBT
- The main players competing will be referred to as contestants
Battle Top Qualifications
- Size: BT must fit into a box of 50mm x 50mm x 50mm
- Weight: BT must way less than 100g
- Energy: BT must store less than x Joules (less than 2x 100mAh 1S LiPo batteries)
- Calculations and verification must be submitted before competing
- Some portion of the BT is required to spin
- Contestant must specify which part of their BT is the main BT
- Main BT must have appropriate colour markings for easy detection
- Referred to in the document as “MBT”
Match Setup
BTs must use the designated launchersLaunchers can have various parameters changed, like tilt, and drop heightBTs must be able to be turned on when they leave the launcher
- BTs must be placed in their designated start zones (coloured spaces on the arena)
- Before placing your BT into the stadium, you can activate its main spin disc
- Ref will count down 3,2,1,GO, and on GO you release your BT into the stadium
- Contestants are required to bring 3 BTs to each match
- They can be of the same design, or all wildly different
- All competing BTs must meet tournament standards and approval before competing
- BTs are setup in secrecy and are revealed on match start
Win Conditions
- Other top is no longer standing on bit
- A countdown starts when it is no longer on bit, countdown starts from 3 seconds and is audibly counted down by the ref
- Designated MBT is no longer spinning
- Stadium knockout into one of the pits
- MBT is destroyed
Match Procedures
- Battles end when the following happens:
- BT(s) KO
- BT(s) stop spinning
- Time limit goes to 0 (2-3mins per round)
- If a round ends in a draw, BTs will be setup again
- Players are free to swap out BTs, or keep the same
- A match ends when a contestant is able to knock out all 3 of their opponents BTs, or win by judge ruling
- If contestant A knocks out contestant B’s BT, in the next round contestant A has options:
- They can setup the BT they just played
- They can choose a new BT (note that choosing a new one means they can use this BT again later)
Restrictions
It’s easier to list what you can do, rather than what cannot be done. The list of what you can outfit your BT in is as follows:
- Motors
- LiPo Batteries (total must be under the Joule limit)
- Most mechanical items (hinges, springs, bearings, etc.)
- Fire
- Hydraulics
- Pneumatics under 20PSI (under the Joule limit)
- Fuels: Alcohol, butane, similar fuels
- Most electro-mechanical components (servos, solenoids)
Stadium
- The stadium will have various features that are controlled/uncontrolled:
- Accelerator rails
- Pit falls and launchers
- Speed conveyor belts
- Various ramps
- POSSIBLY: King of the hill style point gathering locations
- Stadium will change every major season to keep the meta fresh
- Contestants will have access to new stadium designs at the start of each season
- Stadiums will be completely enclosed for participants and viewers safety
- Stadium will be durable and heat resistant
