WIP Ruleset (Updated: 2026/2/11):

Terminology

  • Battle Discs will be abbreviated to BD (Pronounced Bee-Dee)
    • The Main Battle Discs can be a subset of the BD; that will be abbreviated to MBD
  • The main players competing will be referred to as contestants

Battle Disc Qualifications

  1. Size: BD must fit into a box of 50mm x 50mm x 50mm
  2. Weight: BD must way less than 100g
  3. Energy: BD must store less than x Joules (less than 2x 100mAh 1S LiPo batteries)
    1. Calculations and verification must be submitted before competing
  4. Some portion of the BD is required to spin
  5. Contestant must specify which part of their BD is the main BD
    1. Main BD must have appropriate colour markings for easy detection
    2. Referred to in the document as “MBD”
    3. This will be the BD that, when stops its spin, will be considered a knock out

Match Setup

  1. BDs must use the designated launchers
    1. Launchers can have various parameters changed, like tilt, and drop height
    2. BDs must be able to be turned on when they leave the launcher (via a magnetic switch)
  2. Ref will count down 3,2,1,GO, and on GO you release your BD into the stadium
    1. This will be automated by the designated launchers
    2. Mistarts will be reset as fairly as possible. BDs will attempt to be shutdown as soon as possible
  3. Contestants are required to bring 3 BDs to each match
    1. They can be of the same design, or all wildly different
    2. All competing BDs must meet tournament standards and approval before competing
    3. BDs are setup in secrecy and are revealed on match start

Win Conditions

  1. Other top is no longer standing on bit
    1. A countdown starts when it is no longer on bit, countdown starts from 3 seconds and is audibly counted down by the ref
  2. Designated MBD is no longer spinning
  3. Stadium knockout into one of the pits
  4. MBD is destroyed

Match Procedures

  1. Battles end when the following happens:
    1. BD(s) KO
    2. BD(s) stop spinning
    3. Time limit goes to 0 (2-3mins per round)
  2. If a round ends in a draw, BDs will be setup again
    1. Players are free to swap out BDs, or keep the same
  3. A match ends when a contestant is able to knock out all 3 of their opponents BDs, or win by judge ruling
  4. If contestant A knocks out contestant B’s BD, in the next round contestant A has options:
    1. They can setup the BD they just played
    2. They can choose a new BD (note that choosing a new one means they can use this BD again later)

Restrictions

It’s easier to list what you can do, rather than what cannot be done. The list of what you can outfit your BD in is as follows:

  1. Motors
  2. LiPo Batteries or lesser (total must be under the Joule limit)
  3. Most mechanical items (hinges, springs, bearings, etc.)
  4. Fire
  5. Hydraulics
  6. Pneumatics under 20PSI (under the Joule limit)
  7. Fuels: Alcohol, butane, similar fuels
  8. Most electro-mechanical components (servos, solenoids)

Strictly forbidden:

  1. Caustic chemicals
  2. Magnets (since magnets will be used to disable and enable BDs)

Stadium

  1. The stadium will have various features that are controlled/uncontrolled:
    1. Accelerator rails
    2. Pit falls and launchers
    3. Speed conveyor belts
    4. Compressed air to alter direction of BDs
    5. Moving components
    6. Various ramps
    7. POSSIBLY: King of the hill style point gathering locations
  2. Stadium will change every major season to keep the meta fresh
    1. Contestants will have access to new stadium designs at the start of each season
  3. Stadiums will be completely enclosed for participants and viewers safety
  4. Stadium will be durable and heat resistant

Side Challenges

Along with the main battling competition, there will also be prizes for the following categories:

  1. Best Design
  2. Obstacle course fastest clear
    1. Featuring those who come up with good solutions to control their BDs
  3. Longest spin
    1. Those wishing to compete in this will have to setup early in the competition to enable enough time to see the winner through
    2. Might have to be a time cap if competition doesn’t allow for it
  4. Most takedowns of regular beyblades
